Every machine builder eventually hits the same wall. The machine is finished, the numbers add up, and then the wheels turn out to be the limit. Too little carrying capacity at the axle load you designed for. Wear that eats the margin on the service contract. A rim that does not leave room for the brake you chose. At that point you can compromise on the machine, or you can build a different wheel.
HBI Tyres & Wheels builds the different wheel. We are at bauma CHINA 2026 in Shanghai, and we come to talk about your machine, not about our catalogue.
A European manufacturer of complete wheels
HBI is European by origin and a manufacturer by trade. We design and produce, and we supply the tyre and the rim as one product, engineered around the machine it goes on. That is a different discipline from selling tyres from a warehouse, and it is the reason OEM machine builders come to us with problems rather than with order numbers.
We are not the widest supplier in the market, and we are not trying to be. Our strength sits in complete wheel solutions for specific applications: infrastructure, earthmoving and construction, where loads are high, surfaces are unforgiving and downtime is expensive. That focus is what allows us to go deep on a single application instead of shallow on all of them.
Co-development: the work starts with your problem
Most of our products exist because a machine builder came to us with something that did not work yet. We sit down with your engineers, look at the machine, the duty cycle and the failure you are trying to design out, and then develop the wheel that removes the limit. Carrying capacity, wear, dimensions and the complete wheel configuration are one question, and we treat them that way.
Three examples of where that has led:
- The first dual-wheel tyres for excavators. When stability under load became the constraint, we were the first to bring a dual-wheel solution to wheeled excavators.
- The inventor of the Cargo Plus tyre. A tyre built for a problem the market had accepted as unsolvable, carrying heavy loads at a diameter that keeps the deck low.
- An alternative to solid tyres, using aramid technology. Solid tyres survive the site but pass every impact into the axles and bearings. We developed an air-filled construction reinforced with aramid that resists cuts and punctures while it still cushions the machine.
SGX and the specialist range for construction
In Shanghai the focus is on SGX and on the wheel solutions around it: patterns that combine site grip and stability with low wear on asphalt, excavator tyres with sidewalls that survive slewing work against rubble, and telehandler and wheel loader wheels built for intensive lifting and loading cycles. Every one of them can be supplied as a complete wheel, with a rim engineered to the machine and matched to the tyre rather than ordered separately and hoped for.
For first fitment at an OEM that matters more than it sounds. A wheel specified as one product arrives as one product, fits the first time, and behaves on the test bench the way it behaves in the field.
Building for Europe from China
If your machines are heading for the European market, the wheel is one of the places where that ambition gets tested. European operators, hire fleets and contractors have their own expectations on load ratings, road behaviour, service life and availability of replacements. We have spent decades inside that market, and we can tell you early what will hold up and what will generate warranty claims.
That works in both directions. We are active worldwide and we deliver worldwide, so a wheel developed for your machine in Shanghai can be supplied wherever that machine is sold.
Bring us the wheel that is holding your machine back
Come to the stand with the machine and the constraint. Axle load, duty cycle, the surface it works on, the failure you keep seeing, and the brake or hub package you are designing around. We will tell you what is possible, what it would take, and whether an existing wheel already solves it. If the honest answer is that your current supplier has it right, that is what you will hear.
